What is a Collective?

Collectives are communities of students and faculty who are interested in particularly area of Graphic Design and able to represent the Department in the larger community of Graphic Design. Huh? Classes are one way to learn and get to know like-minded peers. Collectives are another way. They allow you to work on projects and initiatives and stay connected to people and ideas outside of the classroom.

Electronic Publishing

This collective solicits, collaborates and vets projects destined for a risd.gd subdomain. Student show websites, risd.gd itself, student collaborations. The Web is a defacto publishing platform, and this group helps shape how our Department looks and acts in the webspace

Library / Archives

This collective is charged with collecting and saving common resources sited where appropriate (Type Shop, Grad Studio, undergrad studios). Of particular focus will be samples that aid in the production of design objects: Type Specimens, paper samples, Lulu and Spoonflower samples, etc. An online cataloging component may be of interest, as may collaborations with the Fleet Library, etc.
